Winners announced, 2017 Crystal Coast Christmas Flotilla

The horn blared to begin the start of the 25th annual Crystal Coast Christmas Flotilla as it had done so many times since the boat parade began in 1992. But, this was a little different. Thirty-three boats of all sizes turned out this year to mark the milestone for the Flotilla. It was one of the best gatherings in years featuring boats, yachts, oars, kayaks and commercial vessels decorated for the season.

The boats gathered on the Morehead City waterfront at 9th Street (Russell Yachts). After the line-up, the boats slowly made their way down the waterfront and then headed to the Beaufort. Upon gathering near Duke Marine Lab, the boats continued to and head down Taylor’s Creek to the Beaufort waterfront and proceeded to the old Post Office at Cape Lookout National Seashore Welcome Center.

“We had a tremendous turnout both on the water with participating boats and with visitors watching along the waterfront,” stated Brent Creelman, Operations Manager for the Friends of the North Carolina Museum.

On social media, several people expressed their pleasure with the event and commented, “it was the best Flotilla in years.” The Flotilla traditionally attracts 20-30 vessels each year.
